MODULES - 10

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Which standards does this course align to?

It covers 100% of the CSTA 3A standards, and 100% of seven state editions of that framework: Connecticut, Hawaii, Iowa, Michigan, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Washington. It also covers 96% of Indiana Computer Science 1, 94% of Maryland 9-10, 93% of Arizona 9-12 and 92% of Virginia Computer Science Foundations.

Should I use this or my state's edition?

Use this one unless you are working from a state course list that names its own edition. It already covers the Connecticut, Hawaii, Iowa, Michigan, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Washington 3A frameworks at 100%, alongside CSTA 3A. The state editions carry the same content under a state name so the course appears in that state's pathways and reporting.

What does the course cover?

All five concept areas in the CSTA framework: algorithms and programming, computing systems, data and analysis, impacts of computing, and networks and the internet.

What language do students program in?

JavaScript throughout.

Which grades is this course for?

Grades 9 and 10. The description says so directly, and CodeHS places it at those grades in the CSTA Framework pathway. It also appears in the Montana and West Virginia state pathways across grades 9 to 12.

Do students need any programming experience first?

No. It is a first computer science course for grades 9 and 10 and starts from the beginning of each concept area.

How long is the course?

About 140 contact hours, built to run across a full school year.
