FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Georgia standards does this course align to?

It covers 100% of the Georgia Foundations of Interactive Design standards. The CodeHS standards page shows each standard alongside the lesson that covers it, which is what districts usually need for course documentation.

What grade is this course for?

It is the 7th grade course in the Georgia Middle School Computer Science pathway. CodeHS also lists it under the broader Georgia state pathway for grades 6 through 8.

What do students actually build in this course?

Two things: their own web pages and their own game. Students learn HTML and CSS and go through an iterative design process with prototyping and user testing to build a portfolio website, then learn the basics of game design and build a shot game they can share.

Do students have to write code?

They write HTML and CSS by hand in the CodeHS editor. The game project uses block coding rather than a text-based programming language, so this course is a design and web course rather than a first programming course.

How long is the course?

About 33 contact hours, built to run as a quarter-long course.

Where does this sit in the Georgia middle school sequence?

It follows Georgia Foundations of Computer Programming, the 6th grade course, and leads into Georgia Foundations of Secure Information Systems in 8th grade.
