This course is designed to provide computer science instruction aligned to CSTA standards for 1st grade students. It is meant to be taught approximately once a week by a designated computer science teacher.

  • Optional Review

    This module provides an optional refresher on logging into CodeHopJr and using the sequential Scout Adventures story to review adding characters, backgrounds, motion, and events.

  • Getting Started

    This module builds computational thinking skills by identifying patterns and sequencing steps in an evening routine while also strengthening mouse skills.

  • Sequences & Events

    This module builds sequencing and event skills through digital responsibility, hide-and-seek and sizing games, the design process, and debugging practice, culminating in a quiz.

  • Loops

    This module introduces repeat loops and debugging through a butterfly-catching game.

  • Message Events

    This module teaches message events for character communication through a relay race, a Simon Says game, and a speed-based bouncing ball project.

  • Pages

    This module introduces multi-page programs through a tapping game, a mini golf game, and a digital greeting card.

  • Grid

    This module teaches the coordinate grid and end blocks through maze design and race programs.

  • Culmination Project

    This module has students plan and build an "About Me" program applying skills learned throughout the course.

  • Computing Systems

    This module introduces computing fundamentals including input/output, hardware and software, and how networks and the internet enable communication.

  • Safety & Responsibility

    This module covers digital safety and citizenship topics including password protection, responsible technology use, and giving credit for others' work.

  • Data & Analysis

    This module builds data literacy skills through collecting and visualizing data, conducting guided research, and identifying patterns and trends.

  • Impacts of Computing

    This module explores how computing devices and computer science careers affect everyday life and help solve community problems.

  • AI Exploration

    This module introduces AI concepts including how AI uses data to make decisions and how decision trees and patterns support classification.
