This course is designed to provide computer science and technology instruction for Nebraska Kindergarten students. Students learn programming and technology concepts, including: computing systems, networks and the Internet, data analysis, algorithms and programming, and impacts of computing.

UNITS - 10 (39 lessons)
Students engage in screen-free activities that build sequencing and event-based thinking, using dance instructions, card games, and acting out cause-and-effect scenarios to move a character through a maze.
Students learn to log into and navigate the CodeHop platform, build mouse and keyboard skills, learn basic computer hardware and software vocabulary, practice responsible technology use, and apply computational thinking to daily routines.
Through the story-driven Scout Adventures series, students explore the programming interface, adding and modifying characters, backgrounds, and pages while sequencing motion blocks and events to animate a story.
Students use drawing tools, event blocks, and multi-step sequences to build interactive scenes, while also learning to collect and analyze simple data and see how coding connects to careers like fashion design.
Students learn to build programs with multiple pages and use the "go to page" block to move between scenes in a story.
Students experiment with speed, sound, and "say" blocks to animate characters and give them voices, while practicing debugging of event and motion sequences.
Students learn to use repeat and forever loops to repeat actions efficiently, applying loops to animate characters and create effects like fireworks.
Students combine events, sequences, and loops learned throughout the course to design an original wildlife scene project.
Students build digital citizenship skills including recognizing kind versus unkind online behavior, protecting private information, conducting basic research, understanding data storage and networks, and exploring how AI uses data to make decisions.
Students compare different types of software applications and practice using word-processing tools to create a document.

It's a one-year computer science course for kindergarten that introduces foundational programming concepts through a block-based programming language. The course totals 36 contact hours, with each lesson running about 30 minutes. Teaching one lesson per week covers a full school year.
