This course is designed to provide computer science and technology instruction for Maryland 2nd Grade students. Students learn programming and technology concepts, including: computing systems, networks and the Internet, data analysis, algorithms and programming, and impacts of computing.

UNITS - 8 (38 lessons)
This optional review module revisits foundational programming concepts from the prior year, including navigating the interface, using events, and applying repeat, forever, and message-triggered loops.
Students learn how computer hardware and software work together, then apply computational thinking to sequence and simplify their school day routines.
Students use the grid feature to precisely position characters, practice debugging sequence and event errors, design algorithms to connect paths, and explore how coding applies to fashion design careers.
Students use message events to control program flow and model cycles, combine messages with pages to move characters between scenes, and introduce variables to keep score in a game.
Students identify patterns and use loops to build programs like a maze-following animation and a timer, practice debugging loop and message errors, and create and revise an original animated story based on peer feedback.
Students apply the design process to build and revise culminating game projects, including a racing game, a moving-targets game, and a maze game, and conduct a data investigation to identify patterns and make predictions.
Students build digital literacy by researching topics of their choice, comparing software applications, exploring how technology has changed the world, practicing password safety and responsible digital citizenship, and modeling how networks and data storage work.
Students transition from CodeHopJr to the CodeHop block-based editor and practice sequencing conditional logic through unplugged maze card games in preparation for next year's course.
