UNITS - 9 (49 lessons)
Reviews foundational programming concepts from the previous year, including events, repeat and forever loops, and message events.
Introduces how computer components connect and work together, reinforces responsible technology use, and applies computational thinking to school day routines.
Develops sequencing and event skills through debugging exercises and grid-based movement, then applies them to CS careers, data pattern analysis, money, word problems, and geometry.
Teaches students to use message events to control program flow and model cycles, page navigation, computer networks, and a 3D shapes quiz game.
Uses loops to identify patterns and build programs, including debugging loop-based code, an original animated story, and a model of seed dispersal.
Has students review and integrate the year's coding skills to build a racing game and a multi-page adventure game as culminating projects.
Covers digital literacy topics including keyboarding, password safety, an introduction to AI through decision trees and AutoDraw, survey-based data collection, and research skills.
Offers supplemental cross-curricular coding projects linking programming to math concepts like place value and number comparison, and to science and social studies topics like landforms, matter, erosion, and community environments.
Prepares students for more advanced coding by introducing conditionals through unplugged card games and transitioning them from the CodeHopJr interface to the CodeHop Blocks editor.

2nd grade students use the grid, message events, and loops to build programs, practice debugging, and create a racing game and a multi-page adventure game. They use coding to explore money, story problems, life cycles, and seed dispersal, and animate an original fiction story. Students also practice keyboarding and password safety, explore networks, collect survey data, and learn how AI sorts information and recognizes drawings.
Yes. Many lessons use coding to practice 2nd grade math and science, such as money, creating story problems, data patterns, life cycles, and seed dispersal, and other lessons connect to storytelling and careers.
The course includes 36 lessons, each about 45 minutes long, providing a full year of instruction when taught once a week. Every lesson is built in a ready-to-teach format, with step-by-step videos that walk students through the lesson. Lessons are designed to be teacher-led using an "I do, we do, you do" format, and a self-paced option is also available. Optional review lessons at the start of the course are not counted in the 36 lessons.
No. There are no prerequisites, and the course is designed to support all learners regardless of prior computer science experience. Optional review lessons at the start of the course help students who are new to CodeHop review events and loops before moving into 2nd grade content.
Florida Foundations of Computer Science: 2nd Grade is aligned to Florida's K-12 computer science standards. Lessons required to fully meet the standards are labeled in the course syllabus with the standards they address, and all Digital Literacy lessons are required because they cover essential non-programming computer science concepts.
