Teaching Digital Citizenship for Elementary Classrooms

In this course, teachers will be introduced to the basics of digital citizenship and cyber hygiene. Teachers will learn about common misunderstandings in digital citizenship, strategies to teach digital citizenship and cyber hygiene concepts in their elementary classrooms, how to conduct effective internet searches, evaluating online resources, and best practices in grading student work.

UNITS - 5 (9 lessons)

  • Getting Started Teaching Digital Citizenship for Elementary Classrooms

    In this module, we will introduce you to the course and digital citizenship in the elementary classroom.

  • Teaching Cyber Hygiene

    This module introduces educators to the fundamentals of teaching cyber hygiene in elementary classrooms. Teachers will learn how to guide students in practicing respectful online behavior, maintaining digital wellness, and staying safe on the internet. The focus is on building healthy, responsible habits for navigating digital spaces.

  • Teaching Digital Citizenship

    This module helps educators introduce the concept of digital citizenship to elementary students. Teachers will explore how to teach about digital identity and online footprints, helping students understand the lasting impact of their actions online. The goal is to promote thoughtful, responsible participation in digital communities.

  • Teaching Digital Literacy

    This module supports educators in teaching digital literacy skills to elementary students. Teachers will learn how to guide students in responsibly sharing and using digital media, and in critically evaluating the information they encounter online. The focus is on helping young learners become thoughtful, informed digital citizens.

  • Course Wrap-Up

    The Course Wrap-Up module includes an end-of-course survey and a course completion badge.
