In this project, students create a multi-file webpage that tracks the number of clicks that items of content on the site receive, allowing the web owner to make decisions about which content should be kept, and which should be changed out the next time that they update their site.

Background

Collecting data is a great tool for making decisions based on user feedback. The more data you have at your disposal, the better position you’ll be in to make good decisions and take advantage of new opportunities. Good data will also help you feel more confident in your decisions because they will be backed by evidence.


Your Task

Here are some of the exciting things you will create while working through this project:

  • Define Your Product
    • In this lesson, you are introduced to a data collection project that will require you to create a website that collects user data.

    • In this lesson, you’ll learn about user personas and how they are used by companies to make predictions about user interactions.

  • Collecting User Data
    • In this lesson, you’ll collect data on your project website from users, and provide feedback to classmates on the quality of your data collection process.
  • Analyzing User Data
    • In this lesson, you’ll learn about the different types of data that you can collect from users, and how you can use that to make informed decisions about your website.
  • Making Decisions
    • In this lesson, you’ll wrap up the project by writing up a report about your data collection findings.
