I mentored a robotics team and realized how critical coding is to understanding the relationship between hardware and software.

Tell us about yourself

I love backpacking, skiing, tinkering, and making stuff that doesn't already exist. You could say I'm a innovative adventurer. I play keys for a jazz band and love coffee ice cream.

What got you interested in learning computer science?

I took an introductory computer science course at Stanford for my engineering degree, but at that point I was primarily focused on mechanical design instead of software. Then this January, I mentored a robotics team and realized how critical coding is to understanding the relationship between hardware and software. I'd love to be able to make the brains as well as the body!

How did you find out about CodeHS?

An old housemate is one of the founders of CodeHS. When another housemate decided to check it out to brush up on his coding skills, I was surprised by how fun and approachable it looked, and decided to try it out myself.

Favorite program you've made so far?

I enjoyed creating the logic behind the Fibonacci sequence, and then challenged friends and family to figure out the logic behind it themselves as well!
