Hour of AI: Sorting with Charts
45min
Students will be able to recognize patterns, use a decision tree to classify objects, and create a chart to show how patterns help computers make decisions.
Lesson Preparation
* If time is limited, skip the Independent Practice section of this lesson.
* Choose how students participate during Sorting with Rules, Sorting with Decision Trees, and Sorting with Charts:
* Whole group (thumbs up/down, hand signals, turn & talk)
* OR print 1 copy per student of the Ways to Sort handout for students to follow-along

| Recognize patterns, use a decision tree to classify objects, and create a chart to show how patterns help computers make decisions. | • Student creates a clear yes/no rule and correctly classifies all objects using both a decision tree and a chart. • Student completes one or more extensions. | • Student creates a clear yes/no rule and correctly classifies all objects using both a decision tree and a chart. | • Student creates a rule but inconsistently classifies objects or completes only one representation (decision tree or chart). | • Student needs support to create a rule and is unable to correctly classify objects. |
