Tommy Chiu
Computer Science student at UC Davis
Tell us a little about yourself…
Hi! I am a 4th year computer science student at UC Davis. When I graduate, I hope to get into android application development. I also love to help students get introduced to coding because it is such an amazing field.
When did you first start learning computer science?
I started coding when I found out about it in college! I couldn’t believe there weren’t any coding courses in my high school.
Do you have any favorite programs or projects that you’ve built?
I’ve converted a desktop game with my classmates onto the android platform so that the android phones can play it. I also coded a sudoku solver and made a replica of flappy birds called “flappy helicopter.”
How would you like to use computer science and programming in the future?
Android application development is what fascinates me the most.
Fun facts about you?
I am a Masters/Challenger League of Legends player and the former MVP/team captain badminton player for my high school. I was also a CPR-certified lifeguard for my local swimming facility. I can speak cantonese fluently.
Favorite ice cream flavor?
Mint Chocolate Chip!
Words of advice for the next generation of coders?
You have to love coding in order to thrive in this field.
