Tell us a little about yourself…
Hi everyone! I’m currently a sophomore at Foothill College majoring in computer science. Other than that, I love to run, swim, watch movies, and travel to as many new places as possible!
When did you first start learning computer science?
I started learning to code the summer after my sophomore year in high school. I mostly used YouTube and one book. Thinking back, I seemed pretty silly and I wish I had had something like CodeHS.
Do you have any favorite programs or projects that you’ve built?
I made a program that plays the scale and major/minor chords depending on what note the user entered. I thought this was really cool because I played the piano for 12 years, and I thought it would be fun to “make your own song” by typing letters into the computer.
How would you like to use computer science and programming in the future?
I really want to use computer science to help the environment in some way. There is so much we can do with computer science and programming, and we’ve made some pretty cool stuff so far, but I think we could do a lot of great things to help the environment.
Fun facts about you?
One of my favorite places in the world is Santorini.
Favorite ice cream flavor?
Phish Food from Ben & Jerry’s.
Words of advice for the next generation of coders?
If you get stuck, work it out on paper or a whiteboard! That has saved me countless times.
