First Blended Computer Science Course Fully Aligned to Indiana Standards on CodeHS
Introducing the New CodeHS Indiana Computer Science I Course
In 2018, the Indiana Department of Education made great strides passing the Senate Enrolled Act 172. This requires all Indiana elementary, middle, and high schools to offer computer science by the year 2021–2022.
At CodeHS, we know this can be a big undertaking for schools. That’s why we launched the first blended computer science course fully aligned to Indiana computer science standards!
Introducing Indiana Computer Science I
The CodeHS Indiana Computer Science I course teaches the foundations of computer science and basic programming, with an emphasis on helping students develop logical thinking and problem-solving skills. Once students complete this course, they will have learned material equivalent to a semester college introductory course in computer science and be able to program in JavaScript.
Who is this course for?
This course is designed specifically for Indiana schools and aligned with Indiana computer science standards. The curriculum is for beginners with no previous background in computer science. It’s highly visual, dynamic, and interactive making it engaging for new coders.
What do you learn?
The entirely web-based curriculum is made up of a series of learning modules that cover the fundamentals of programming. Each module is made up of short video tutorials, example programs, quizzes, programming exercises, challenge problems, and unit tests.
Here is an overview of the modules:
- Programming with Karel the Dog
- Cybersecurity
- JavaScript Graphics
- JavaScript Control Structures
- Functions and Parameters
- Animations and Games
- Project: Breakout
- Final Project
