ποΈ Final Stretch: Review for May 8th
The AP CSA exam is almost here: Wednesday, May 8th at 12 pm local time! At this point, you should be taking some time to review test-taking strategies, especially strategies related to the free-response questions. Make sure students understand how these questions are scored and how they may be able to pick up some easy points even if they can't fully solve the problem.
Be sure to check out our FRQ center to help students get more practice with past FRQ questions, including scoring rubrics.
βοΈ Keeping Students Engaged after the Exam
May 8th will come and go quickly. Then what? It can be hard to keep students engaged after the AP test, but some school districts may have 6 or more weeks remaining.
There are a few good options, depending on your timeframe:
- Project Catalog - There are over 20 Java projects that are set up and ready to be assigned to your class. Many projects will take less than a week to complete.
- Interdisciplinary Courses - Many of these are designed to be completed in 10 hours or less and include fun topics such as Coding in Sports and Coding in Art.
- Introduction to Virtual Reality - This course can be completed in 3 to 4 weeks and offers students a great opportunity to be creative and explore an emerging technology.
π» AP CSA Project of the Month
The CodeHS Project Catalog offers a multitude of projects to enhance your course. This month's featured project is Tumor Scanner. In this project, students use 2D arrays to simulate a scan to find a tumor. Students will need to use pattern matching and array manipulation to solve this problem.
This project includes autograders and is considered hard difficulty, taking an estimated 6 hours.
