CodeHS Raises $1.75m to Help More Schools Teach Coding Classes
Web-Based AP Java, Online Teacher Training and Much More
We’re excited to announce that we’ve raised $1.75 million in funding from a group of great investors including Learn Capital, NewSchools Ventures, Kapor Capital, Chmod, the Stanford-StartX Fund, Seven Peaks Ventures, and a handful of experienced angel investors.
In the last two years, a lot has changed in computer science education and high school computer science education and we’re excited to be a big part of that. We think everyone should be able to take a coding class that is fun and accessible, and that these skills provide all sorts of creative opportunities for students in school and beyond. We like to say “Read Write Code” — to us that means that coding is now a foundational skill like reading and writing.
We’re lucky to have worked with thousands of teachers, students and schools over the past two years who are doing amazing work teaching classes with CodeHS all over the world. We are inspired every day to hear your stories, feedback, and most importantly— to see the programs students are writing.
Here is what we are making: The best place to learn the basics of coding online, with a focus on community. Our community is made up of students, teachers, and tutors all over the world. CodeHS provides schools a “class in a box” —we have all the parts to bring a coding class to your school no matter the situation. Our web-based curriculum, teacher tools, autograders, and professional development will help you teach a world-class computer science course, whether it’s your first time, or you’ve been teaching for a decade. We have an intro computer science class, and are building out a 4-year high school curriculum.
So here is what we are doing now:
We’re helping schools teach coding classes where it wasn’t possible before.
If you are a teacher, principal, administrator or parent, you can help bring a coding class to your school. We have everything you need to bring a class—and the support along the way.
We’re looking for students and teachers to pilot our AP Java course.
We’re building a fantastic web-based AP Computer Science Java course online—with the great autograding, teacher tools and more that you get on CodeHS. You’ll be able to preview this on March 1. For experienced computer science teachers, we have a lot of things in store that we think you’ll really like! Contact us to try it out.
We are looking for new team members.
Are you interested in helping to build cutting edge computer science curriculum for high schools used by thousands of students all over the world? We’re hiring curriculum engineers and software engineers. If you’re interested in professional development, get in touch. You can apply here.
We’re hiring more tutors.
If you are a college computer science student who wants to make computer science education available to more students, you can apply to be a paid tutor at CodeHS. You’ll help students, and CodeHS tutors get involved in lots of other exciting projects.
And … we have free stickers for you.
We have some great “Read, Write, Code” and CodeHS stickers that we want to send you! Fill out this form and we’ll send them to you.
There’s also a lot more coming soon that we are excited to share with you.
Thanks for reading. And if you’re thinking it’s about time that you tried coding, head over to CodeHS. All ages welcome, and we promise you’ll like it!
