New Computer Science Graduation Requirement in Arkansas

There are some exciting updates happening in Arkansas around computer science education requirements.

From 2014 to now, Arkansas has made a lot of progress bringing computer science education to students across the state after announcing that all public and charter high schools will offer computer science courses.

Arkansas is now making CS a graduation requirement!

In March 2021, the Arkansas Department of Education passed Act 414, making computer science a graduation requirement starting with the entering ninth grade class of 2022–2023.

By 2022, public schools will also be required to have a computer science teacher at each high school.

After seeing firsthand how our world needs to adapt in a year like 2020, there is now doubt that computer science education is valuable for all students! Arkansas continues to focus on how they can better support schools and teachers and prepare students for a digital future.
