New CodeHS AP CSP Cybersecurity Course
Released in Partnership with the National Cybersecurity Training & Education Center
CodeHS is excited to release this new College Board-endorsed AP course that introduces students to the foundational concepts of computer science and challenges them to explore how computing and technology can impact the world! In this cybersecurity version of the course, students will explore all the AP CSP requirements with an emphasis on cybersecurity applications in JavaScript.
The overarching goal of the AP CSP is to increase and diversify participation in computer science, while this new version with emphasis in cybersecurity will expose those students to more secure approaches to programming and general technology use.
This course was built in partnership with NCyTE — the National Cybersecurity Training & Education Center — by joining the CodeHS AP CSP JavaScript course with cybersecurity concept lessons developed by NCyTE. With this combination of content, students will get hands-on experience with cybersecurity topics while engaging with foundational computer science practices from the AP CSP course framework.
CodeHS is recognized by the College Board as an endorsed provider of curriculum and professional development for AP® Computer Science Principles (AP CSP). Using an endorsed provider affords schools access to resources including an AP CSP syllabus pre-approved by the College Board’s AP Course Audit, and officially recognized professional development that prepares teachers to teach AP CSP. This endorsement affirms only that components of CodeHS’s offerings are aligned to all the AP Curriculum Framework standards and the AP CSP assessment.

“The cybersecurity concepts are a natural fit in the AP CSP curriculum. The AP CSP curriculum is designed in part to help students explore the impacts of technology in their lives and both personal and network security are playing a bigger role in that impact. This course helps introduce students to basic cybersecurity concepts in a fun and engaging way.”
— David Burnham, CodeHS Curriculum Developer
“AP CSP high school teachers helped to develop and pilot the cybersecurity content that is incorporated into the new course and have expressed their excitement at having interactive cybersecurity activities as part of their AP classrooms. Exposing AP CSP students to cybersecurity concepts is a big win for the future security of our national infrastructure and will introduce students to these critical, integrated occupations.”
— Corrinne Sande, NCyTE Director and Project Principal Investigator
Who is this course for?
There are no official prerequisites for the CodeHS AP Computer Science Principles course. This course is meant to be a first-time introduction to computer science and does not require students to come in with any computer programming experience. However, we
recommend that students take our Introduction to Computer Science prior to our AP courses.
