Meet a Tutor: Morgan Johnson

Computer Science Student at Montana State University
Tell us a little about yourself…
I am a freshman in computer science at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana. I love working with computers, both on the software side with coding and on the hardware side as well (I have built three computers).
When did you first start learning computer science?
I started coding in High School, where I learned Python.
Do you have any favorite programs or projects that you’ve built?
Recently for a class assignment I wrote a program that would solve a maze using recursion. It took more than a few hours to complete and required a lot of logical reasoning to solve, but that was really fun.
How would you like to use computer science and programming in the future?
There are so many applications for CS and programming that for me it is hard to choose at this point. There are some really cool fields such as security or robotics that I have yet to explore. I’m going to keep learning to see what is the best fit for me.
Fun facts about you?
I have corrupted my computer’s operating system three times in the last year due to experimentation.
Favorite ice cream flavor?
Something that has a lot of cookie dough in it. Like, a lot.
Words of advice for the next generation of coders?
When programming, do not be afraid to try weird things. You never know if some odd solution might work if you do not try it. It will help your learning a lot if you experiment freely.
