Introducing: Nevada Computer Science and Applications

Course Fully Aligned to Nevada CS Standards

We are excited to announce the first fully aligned Nevada state course, Computer Science and Applications.

This course has recently been adopted as a half-credit graduation requirement for all students in Nevada. In this course, students learn about computer science and computational thinking using Python and HTML to analyze and design solutions to problems using programming skills. Additional topics include algorithms, documentation, security and privacy, communication and collaboration, and data visualization. This course is currently in a beta version, so there will be updates and revisions before the 2019–2020 school year.

Who is this course for?

The curriculum is for beginners with no previous background in computer science. It’s highly visual, dynamic, and interactive making it engaging for new coders.

What do you learn?

The entirely web-based curriculum is made up of a series of learning modules that cover the fundamentals of programming. Each module is made up of short video tutorials, example programs, quizzes, programming exercises, challenge problems, and unit tests.

Here is an overview of the modules:

  • Digital Citizenship and Cyber Hygiene
  • Introduction to Programming with Tracy the Turtle
  • Web Design
  • Networking Fundamentals
  • Final Project
