Inspire Fellowship: CodeHS 2020 CSforAll Commitment Update
At CodeHS, we see education as a tool for change. In light of the racial injustice happening across our country, our team is committed to investing more resources in tackling these inequities as they relate to computer science education. For the 2020–21 CSforAll Summit, the CodeHS team made the following commitment:
CodeHS will launch the new CodeHS Inspire Fellowship and commit $150,000 of CodeHS Pro, professional development, and resources to support educators expanding computer science education access to Black, Latino and Native American students.
Less than a year later, everything we had planned is on track. In early 2020, we surveyed computer science teachers and hosted focus groups. From the insights we gained, we launched a fellowship program in the 2020–21 school year focused on supporting Black, Latino, and Native American computer science teachers and students.

2020–21 Inspire Fellowship Year 1 Impact
- 16 teachers received access to CodeHS Pro and a PD course of their choice
- 960 students across 12 states received access to CodeHS Pro
- 75% of the 2020–21 Inspire Fellows used CodeHS 4–5 days a week
- Students learned to code in Java, Python, and JavaScript
Through our Inspire Fellowship, selected teachers had access to virtual events, free professional development courses, classroom resources, and networking opportunities. We also gave each Inspire Fellow access to CodeHS Pro, providing them a suite of classroom tools and resources.
“The impact was tremendous. This fellowship allowed me to have access to a platform that made teaching virtually more manageable. Also, hearing from other CS teachers during our Zoom meetups helped me realize most of us were experiencing similar situations.”
- Felicia Palm, 2020–21 CodeHS Inspire Fellow

Looking Ahead
Our goal of this program is to support the development of computer science teachers in schools with high URM populations, so they can be change agents in their schools to provide more access to high-quality computer science education.
