Data Science — Finding the Value in Big Data

Announcing the New CodeHS Data Science Course!

undefined

Big data is growing, and fast. Data scientists are like the modern treasure hunters. They dig deep into data to make sense of it, conveying their findings into digestible and actionable insights. From analyzing election data on campaign trails to managing user data on social media platforms, data scientists are valuable in every industry.

From LinkedIn’s Top 15 Emerging Jobs report in the U.S., data scientists are ranked #3 with a 37% annual increase in job openings. With the average data scientist’s salary averaging well into the 6 figures, and a huge lack of supply for the current demand, students pursuing data science will be set for success. CodeHS is excited to announce a new Data Science course to help introduce students to this growing field.

Course Overview

Industries of all types are hiring data scientists to analyze and highlight the hidden patterns in data. This new CodeHS course equips students with the essential skills of a data scientist which include data collection, cleanup, transformation, analysis, and visualization. Students will write algorithms and build statistical models using Python libraries. They will also use the same tools that data scientists use to draw meaningful insights and solve organizational problems. View the full course overview here.

“As a former math teacher, I am truly excited about the growth of jobs and student interest in data science. The combination of statistics, coding, and business knowledge can open doors for a variety of students in many different industries!” — Jennifer Campbell, CodeHS Curriculum Developer
