🗓️ Course Pacing: Where Students Should Be

At this point in the year, you should be partway through Unit 9 - Inheritance. Unit 10 is about a week long and you will want to save some time for review. As a reminder, the AP CSA exam is early this year, given on May 8th at 12 pm local time.

If you are not on track to finish in the next couple of weeks, consider assigning parts of Unit 9 and Unit 10 for homework.

✅ Resources For AP Exam Review

As you work your way towards the AP exam, it is important to take time to review with students. Much of this review can be handled in class, but it can also be assigned for homework.

AP Computer Science A Review Course
The review course is broken out by unit and offers multiple-choice and short practice problems. It also has several CodeHS original practice FRQ questions.

AP CSA FRQ Center
In the AP CSA FRQ Center, you will find FRQ questions from past exams presented in different formats and ready to assign to your class.

In addition to CodeHS resources, be sure to utilize resources from the College Board. AP classroom has hundreds of practice multiple-choice questions as well as some full-length practice tests. Another good resource in AP Classroom are the AP Daily Videos that review key concepts for students.

💻 AP CSA Project of the Month

Looking to take a short break from the AP study material? The Brilliant Numbers project might fit perfectly. This is a 2 hour project where students will use ArrayLists and mathematical operators to determine a list of brilliant numbers.

A Brilliant Number is a term first coined by Peter Wallrodt. The term refers to a positive integer that has exactly two prime factors, both with the same number of digits. For example, the number 3569 is a brilliant number since the only two factors are 43 and 83, both of which are two digits. Another example is 83779 which has two factors 421 and 199, both of which are 3 digits.
