Stop 1: Christiana High School (New Castle County, DE)
We headed to Christiana High School where we met up with teacher Ryan Connors. Mr. Connors is a CodeHS Pro champ and shared how CodeHS has made his teaching life easier with its user-friendly platform. We got to interact with his Intro to Python students, engaging them in live coding challenges using CodeHS practice problems. Watching students solve problems like sum, difference, and area of a square in real time was a highlight—they showed impressive problem-solving skills under pressure.
Stop 2: Mount De Sales Academy (Catonsville, MD)
The CodeHS team made their way to Mount De Sales Academy, a private Catholic school outside Baltimore, Maryland. Meeting Sister Albertine and her AP CSA Java students was great. The students enthusiastically participated in practice problem challenges, working solo and in pairs, while racing against the clock. Sister Albertine noted how rewarding it was to see her students demonstrate the skills they’d learned through CodeHS. This was a great visit and made it even more memorable when we were taken on a tour and learned the school's history.
Stop 3: Crofton High School (Crofton, MD)
At Crofton High school, the team met up with CodeHS Pro teacher Emaa Goodfrey, who was teaching Data Science in Python. The class explored Turtle Graphics, and students tried their hands at recreating the iconic CodeHS pink van. Students showcased their creativity and coding skills with some standout programs.
Stop 4: George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology (Towson, MD)
We made it to our next stop, George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology! This arts-focused school had an amazing collection of student-created artwork throughout the building. We spoke with teacher Geoff Pritchard’s AP CSA Java students, who were highly engaged during our Q&A session. Geoff shared how CodeHS outshines other platforms in usability. This visit was inspiring because we got to see how much these students valued their learning experience.
Stop 5: Chesapeake Math and IT Academy North Middle School (Laurel, MD)
Next up on the journey was CMIT North Middle School where we got to meet up with their 6-8th classes. The 6th graders especially stood out, impressing me with projects ranging from polished websites to a Google Firebase integration! Their creativity and technical skills were incredible for their age. The day was an inspiring reminder of how young talent thrives in technology-focused schools.
