Tell us about yourself

My name is Ms. Wolf. I am the Technology Teacher at Saint Anne Parish School in Barrington. I have a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and a Middle school endorsement in Language Arts and Social Students from the University of Illinois. The 2013–2014 school year will mark my first year teaching! I hold a big passion for technology incorporation within education. In order to fit the needs of my 21st learners, it is important to teach them collaboration, critical thinking, and problem solving. All of which can be done though an engaging technology curriculum using CodeHS.

Tell us about your Students

I teach grades K-8th. Each grade level ranges from 30–50 students. The students I have are very passionate for technology. They use it in both their academic and personal lives. Many of them excel with new technologies and software without a large amount of instruction on how to use it. I heard about CodeHS through a reddit post. I have never coded myself and thought it would be something fun to start. I made a CodeHS teacher account. I realized coding was very fun and engaging and wanted to share that experience with my students.

What do you and your students like about CodeHS?

I really enjoy the problem solving aspect of coding. It is very true to jobs and situations of the real world. It expands the classroom from the lecture-listener model to students creating, problem solving, and collaborating.

My students favorite part about CodeHS is once they finally solve a very challenging puzzle. It is like a light bulb goes on and provides them with a new perspective of looking at problems.

Funniest Class Story

My students came up with a song for computer science week ☺ It is to the tone of “Teach me how to Dougie

They be like Ms. Wolf (what?) Can you teach me how to code? You know why? ‘Cause all the programs love me (aye) All I need is a comp that’s running windows 7. And for you, you, and you to log onto google chrome.

Teach me how to code Teach me how to code Teach me how to code Teach me how to code All my programs love me All my, all my programs love me All my programs love me You ain’t messing with my coding!

Biggest Success

I think the biggest success is having my students develop their logical problem solving skills. Real world problem solving and critical thinking is the new buzz within education. CodeHS targets both of those in a fun and engaging way!
