If you’re a high school senior planning to pursue a Computer Science-related field, the CodeHS Scholarship is a fantastic opportunity to support your education. You’ve already put in the hard work—learning to code, problem-solving, and building projects—and this scholarship is a great way to be recognized for your dedication. With 10 winners receiving $1,000 grants, along with networking opportunities, this scholarship can help kickstart your journey into tech. Follow this guide to ensure you submit a strong application!

Step 1: Understand the Requirements

Before you begin your application, make sure you meet the eligibility criteria:

  • You must be a current high school senior enrolling in a post-secondary program in Fall 2025.

  • You must be planning to pursue a Computer Science-related field.

  • You need to submit an original CodeHS program.

  • You must complete both the application form and submit a letter of recommendation.

Application Deadline: May 28, 2025, at 11:59 PM CT

Step 2: Prepare Your CodeHS Program

A key part of the application is submitting an original program through CodeHS Sandbox. Here’s how:

  1. Log into CodeHS and navigate to the CodeHS Sandbox.

  2. Create a new program—this can be a new project or one you’ve previously worked on.

  3. Ensure your code is well-documented and demonstrates your programming skills effectively.

  4. Copy the shareable link and include it in your application.

Step 3: Get a Strong Letter of Recommendation

Your application must include a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or mentor. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Ask a teacher early—give them at least a few weeks to write it.

  • The letter must be on school letterhead and be between one paragraph and 500 words.

  • The teacher should email the letter directly to scholarship@codehs.com OR you can upload a PDF to your application.

  • The letter should include:

    • Teacher’s name and title

    • Why they believe you should receive the scholarship

    • Any standout qualities or accomplishments

Step 4: Complete the Application Form

  1. Visit the CodeHS Scholarship Application.

  2. Log in using a Google email address (create one if you don’t have one).

  3. Fill out all required sections, including personal information and short-response answers.

  4. Upload your CodeHS Sandbox program link and letter of recommendation (if not emailed separately).

  5. Double-check your application for completeness before submitting!

Step 5: Submit Before the Deadline

The final deadline to submit all materials is May 28, 2025, at 11:59 PM CT. Late applications will not be considered, so don’t wait until the last minute!

  • “What have you learned about yourself personally and academically while learning how to code on CodeHS?”

    • Has coding taught you anything about yourself or changed your perspective on anything? Describe that here. 

    • Explain how coding has helped you become a stronger student.

  • “Please write a paragraph explaining the purpose of your independent program and its intended functionality.”

    • Explain what your program does and why you chose it.

    • Highlight the key coding concepts and skills you demonstrated.

    • Mention any challenges you faced and how you overcame them.

  • “Is there anything else you'd like us to know?”

    • Use this as a chance to share unique experiences or challenges you've faced.

    • If you have leadership, volunteer, or extracurricular experience related to CS, mention it here.

What Happens Next?

  • The CodeHS Scholarship Committee will review all applications based on programs, answers, future ambitions, and teacher recommendations.

  • Winners will be announced in June 2025.

  • If selected, you’ll receive a $1,000 scholarship and an invitation to join CodeHS Scholars virtual meetups throughout your freshman year.
