From CodeHS Student To Intern

During my senior year of high school I was enrolled in a CodeHS course, and loved every minute of it. Every exercise was challenging, fun, and taught me new skills.

During my first two years of studying Software Engineering at Arizona State University, I worked as a tutor for CodeHS. As a tutor I was able to help students progress through the same exercises I had completed a year prior, work on an AP Java textbook, and even create an iOS app to be used internally by the sales team.

Towards the end of my Sophomore year I applied to become an intern for CodeHS. I didn’t know if I would get the internship, but had really hoped I would so I could continue to contribute to such an amazing program. After a couple of interviews, and some waiting, I received my offer letter for the position.

When I first started at CodeHS I was greeted by every team member, and began a coding bootcamp to get me acclimated to web development. After my first week at CodeHS I began working on the live site! It was very exciting to see every project I built added to the main site where students, teachers, and team members were able to see and interact with it.

After the first couple of weeks at CodeHS I was assigned larger projects to work on. During these projects I was able to collaborate with other team members and even a teacher who came just to test CodeHS content. Being able to see the way others interact with the pages I built was an incredible experience and extremely helpful in being able better design resources for both students and teachers. These projects ranged from an internal iOS application to help our search team view information on deals to a course map tool designed to help both students and teachers plan their course work.

I feel as if my time at CodeHS has been extremely beneficial, and has taught me more than what I could learn with just school work. Not only have I learned many great new things, but I have created friendships with my co-workers and truly felt at home when I arrived at work.

We also had recess at work, so that was a plus.

Overall I feel that the internship program at CodeHS is one of the best out there, and would recommend it to anyone. I can’t wait to see how the company grows over the coming years and what new projects they have planned.
