Welcome to “This Week in Learn to Code!” If you’ve already begun to learn, this is a chance to pat yourself on the back for having made a great choice.

1. CS Ed Week!

Next week, 12/8–12/14, is the annual Computer Science Education Week! This article talks about one particularly cool offering — at Apple stores all over the US, you’ll be able to take coding courses for free. Give it a shot, and also stop by our Hour of Code page to try out our tutorials!

2. CS In the classroom is a great way to start solving problems with diversity in tech

This great article talks about recent downturns in CS education at the high school level, why CS education is important, and how it ties together with the larger issue of diversity in tech.

3. Google’s AI is getting scary good

Remember CAPTCHAs? Those little forms that had you type a word after looking at a jumbled image to prove that you aren’t a robot? Google has done away with those in favor of a checkbox that can tell if you are a human by the way that you use your mouse. Pretty cool! What type of complicated programming do you think went in to this?
