This Week in Learn to Code — 1/9/2014
Welcome to “This Week in Learn to Code!” If you’ve already begun to learn, this is a chance to pat yourself on the back for having made a great choice. If you haven’t started yet, now is a great time to start!
1. It’s never been more accessible!
This is a great excerpt from Forbes’ “30 under 30" series about Alex Klein, the creator of Kano. Kano is a small, Raspberry Pi based learning tool that teaches kids how to make games, mod Minecraft, and create websites. Pretty cool! What do you think?
2. It will continue to become more accessible!
The White House has released their goals for CS Education in 2015, including having the 60 largest school districts in the USA pledge to institute a CS curriculum, providing over $20m for teacher training, trying to increase minority participation in tech, and developing a new AP CS course. We’re very happy to see such huge pledges from the White House — how about you?
3. It’s only going to get cooler
As always, we like to use the last slot in our TWILTC to highlight a cool piece of tech that was recently announced. This week it’s RobotBases’ Personal Robot, which can watch your pets, patrol your home, and help turn your house into a smart house. Pretty awesome! What tasks in your life would you like to “outsource” to a robot?
That’s all for this week! Thanks for tuning in.
