### Meet a Tutor: Sarah Darrow

**Tell us a little about yourself…**

I’m a sophomore from Mississippi State University studying computer science and doing research in human computer interaction and robotics.

**When did you first start learning computer science?**

I started coding in fourth grade when I joined a FIRST Lego League robotics team.

**Do you have any favorite programs or projects that you’ve built?**

My current research is building a robotic dog for therapeutic use for PTSD patients, and I have worked on several other projects involving robotics, including making a robotic prosthetic arm for a quadriplegic man.

**How would you like to use computer science and programming in the future?**

I’ve had a lot of experience with robotics and have really enjoyed it, but I would also like to try out other subjects like security and UI/UX.

**Fun facts about you?**

I play the trumpet, French horn, and ukulele.

**Favorite ice cream flavor?**

Rocky road

**Words of advice for the next generation of coders?**

Computer science is special because it can be done professionally or recreationally. The best way to learn is to treat it as a hobby and create fun projects that are meaningful to you. It’s also something that can’t really be learned in a book, but rather in practice. So just code, and keep coding. If you get frustrated it’s ok; the more frustrating the challenge the better it feels when you finally solve it.
