As students learn to verbalize the content they’re learning, you’ll notice their understanding of the concepts growing as well! Use it every day as a bell ringer to give students an opportunity to gauge how well they are grasping the content, split students into teams to answer the question and award prizes to the team with the most correct answers at the end of each month, or use them at the end of a unit as a premade review! The better they understand this foundational content, the more successful they will be throughout this unit and beyond. To ensure a full grasp of these concepts, consider adding in a few string manipulation games and activities, such as the following: - String [Boggle](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boggle): Students have a certain number of minutes to create as many words as possible with the letters given and are awarded points at the end of the round for every unique word they have created. Run multiple rounds with different groups of students and different starting strings. - Around the World with Indexing: Write a string on the board (start with a shorter string and increase the length every 3-5 rounds). Two students stand up at their desks and are given a number which will be used as the index value for the string. The first student to shout out the character that corresponds with that string index will continue on. The other student will sit down and a new student will stand to challenge the student who answered correctly.
