### CodeHS Makes Updates to Cybersecurity Curriculum

#### CodeHS Updates Cybersecurity Lessons With Recent Real-World Cybersecurity Event Examples

In order to keep cybersecurity curriculum relevant and engaging for students, CodeHS has made some updates to cybersecurity lessons. Many of these updates feature recent examples of cybersecurity events so that students can make meaningful real-world connections with the content. A list of the updates can be found below.

#### **Lesson: What is Cybersecurity?**

- The **_WannaCry Ransomware Attack_** activity reflected an attack from 2017. We have replaced this item with a more recent video that compares two recent ransomware attacks on city services in New Orleans and Pensacola. The title was renamed to **_City Services Ransomware_** and the student questions and teacher solution code have been changed.
- The **_Internet of Things_** activity included a video from 2016. We have replaced this item with a more recent video that takes a look at the Internet of Things with a special focus on the importance of protecting its security.
- The **_Cybersecurity and Connected Cars_** activity included a video from 2015. We have replaced this item with a more recent video that has students reflect on the risks of hackers infiltrating IoT devices. The title was renamed to **_Hackers vs. Smart Homes_**.

#### **Lesson: Impact of Cybersecurity**

- Question one on the **_Impact of Cybersecurity Quiz_** was updated to remove a specific reference to the year 2020.
- The **_Yahoo! Attack_** activity referenced an attack from 2016. We have replaced this item with a more recent video that has students contemplate mistakes made in a recent phishing attack. The title was renamed to **_Phishing for Your Info_** and the student questions and teacher solution code have been changed.
- The **_Fighting Cybercrime_** activity included a video from 2018. This item has been replaced with an interactive game for students to explore. The title was renamed to **_Cyber Game_**. The corresponding reflection questions have been changed and have students reflect on what they have learned from playing the game.
- The **_FBI Cyber Crime_** activity included a video from 2018. This item has been replaced with an interactive game for students to explore. The title was renamed to **_Cyber Crime Time_**. The corresponding reflection questions have been changed and have students reflect on what they have learned from playing the game.

#### **Lesson: The CIA Triad**

- Question 1 on the **_CIA Connections_** activity was updated to remove a specific reference to the year 2017.

#### **What is Cybersecurity? Quiz**

- Question 7 on the **_What is Cybersecurity? Quiz_** was updated to remove a specific reference to the WannaCry ransomware attack.
