CodeHS Game Design Insider: Updated Unity Course, Unplugging for Week One and Much More!

✨ Updated Game Development in Unity Course
We are in the process of updating our Game Development in Unity course to run on Unity 6000.3.20 (LTS), moving up from the older 2022.3.9 (LTS) release. This isn't just a version bump – Unity 6 brings a reworked rendering pipeline with better default performance, improvements to the Input System, and updates to the UI Toolkit that make building game interfaces more consistent with modern workflows.
That being said, most of the course content itself will stay the same, since the core concepts of game development don't change with the engine version, but the exercises and screenshots are being adjusted to reflect the new editor and workflow. To make the transition as smooth as possible, we'll be releasing each updated module on a rolling basis this fall, pacing the rollout to stay well ahead of your classrooms so you can plan your lessons without any interruptions.
🎲 Unplugging for Week One
Before diving straight into one of our game design courses, it can be incredibly valuable to spend the first week of class completely offline. Having students design a simple tabletop game using just index cards, dice, and markers forces them to focus purely on rules, game balance, and core mechanics without getting bogged down in syntax or engine UI. It's a great low-pressure icebreaker for the start of the year (as classes get going), and it builds a solid foundation for the iterative playtesting skills they'll need once they are back at their computers.
📋 Back-to-School Checklist
Ready for a smooth start to the school year? Walk through our 5-step checklist to easily set up your sections, explore new courses, and get your CodeHS classroom ready to go.
🧠 AI Curriculum
CodeHS has AI courses and dozens of AI projects you can plug into your existing curriculum! By introducing AI in computer science classrooms, you can prepare students for a technology-driven world, and students can learn that what may seem like magic is actually just programs and algorithms!
👥 New Feature: Student Groups
Student Groups give teachers a flexible way to organize students within a section into learning groups. Teachers can create, rename, and manage groups, add or remove students, and view group details all in one place. Once groups are set up, teachers can filter by group across key tools like the Gradebook, Progress, Code Review, Quiz Scores, and more. This new feature is a CodeHS Pro Tool.
💡 2026 Back-to-School Free Webinars
