CodeHS Acquires Tynker to Expand K-8 Computer Science Learning Opportunities

We’re excited to share that CodeHS acquired Tynker in May 2025.

For more than a decade, CodeHS has worked with schools and districts to expand access to high-quality computer science education. Throughout that time, we’ve admired the impact Tynker has had in helping younger learners build confidence and creativity through coding.

With this acquisition, we’re excited to support even more schools with additional pathways for K-8 computer science education.

What This Means for CodeHS Customers

For existing CodeHS customers, your experience remains the same.

CodeHS products and services, including CodeHop, will continue as usual, and our team remains focused on investing in curriculum, platform improvements, teacher tools, and student learning experiences.

What this acquisition does add is choice.

Schools and districts now have access to two strong elementary and middle school computer science solutions:

  • CodeHop – a K-6 computer science and technology platform with ready-to-teach lessons, structured learning pathways, and secure Scratch-based and ScratchJr-based programming environments.

  • Tynker – a flexible K-8 computer science solution that provides game-based, student-led learning experiences that are applicable for different learning environments.

Together, these platforms provide flexible options for schools building K–8 computer science pathways.

Why Tynker?

Tynker has built an engaging platform that has introduced millions of students to coding through interactive lessons, game-based learning, and creative projects.

Tynker complements the existing CodeHS offerings by serving different classroom models, instructional styles, and learner needs.

What This Means for Tynker Customers

Tynker will continue operating as a standalone platform under the Tynker name.

Existing Tynker customers will continue to have access to the same platform, curriculum, and tools they use today. Since the acquisition, the CodeHS team has also been working to strengthen Tynker’s infrastructure, security, and customer support resources.

Our goal is to ensure continuity for current Tynker schools while continuing to improve the experience over time.

Looking Ahead

Computer science education continues to grow rapidly across K-12 education, and we believe schools benefit from having flexible, high-quality tools that support a variety of teaching and learning styles.

We’re excited about what CodeHS and Tynker can accomplish together and look forward to continuing to support schools, districts, teachers, and students around the world.
