AP CSP in Python (Refreshed 2026) Is Here
The refreshed version of AP Computer Science Principles in Python that we previewed last spring is now available in the course catalog for the 2026-27 school year.
This refresh builds on the existing course with improved autograders, clearer assignments, and more opportunities for students to practice core Python concepts. If you taught the previous version, the course structure will feel familiar. The updates focus on making assignments and feedback clearer for students.
If you're setting up a new Python section this fall, look for AP Computer Science Principles in Python (Refreshed 2026) in the catalog, and take a look at the updated syllabus as you plan. You can follow ongoing improvements on the CodeHS changelog.
How to Pace Your AP Course
As you think about planning out the school year, make sure to leave enough time for each unit and time to review and complete the Create Task. The syllabus can be a great resource to help you plan out the year. Each syllabus offers an estimate of how long each unit will take. Keep in mind that these are only estimates and some classes will move a little faster or slower through some of the units.
If you are finding yourself falling a little behind, consider skipping one or more of the practice Performance Tasks (PT), especially early on as the PT skills are still forming. View the syllabi here:
Looking Ahead: AP CSP Course Updates
You may have heard from the College Board about planned changes to AP Computer Science Principles for the 2027-28 school year, including AI-focused content, a new AI Design Project, updates to the programming project, and changes to the AP Exam.
These changes do not affect the course you're teaching this year. You can plan your year using the current course and exam framework.
Our team is actively monitoring College Board announcements and following the framework's development closely. As with previous AP updates, we intend to offer an aligned AP CSP course along with the resources, professional development, and implementation support you need. We'll share more as details are finalized.
